A Synthesis of Surroundings

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.” – Steve Jobs
Avi’s Oils Make Public Appearance
Recently, Studio creative director Avi Schaeffer held his first public exhibit in seven years. Called, “A Synthesis of Surroundings,” his 11-piece collection of oil paintings hung in one of the main hallways at
the YMCA Austin Town Lake location. The Studio team visited Avi’s exhibit on two occassions: First as a team creative outing, which we try to schedule on a regular basis, and second during Avi’s public premiere.
In the exhibit poster Avi wrote, “My painting style is domestic surrealism, which depicts the cultural, political, architectural, and human nature of life and swaps subject matter to create a familiar and fresh experience.”
